Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL), is Australia’s largest independent drug testing laboratory.

RASL is a leading international racing laboratory and provides sophisticated drug testing services for equine, canine and human samples. RASL personnel are globally renowned for their experience in all aspects of drug testing and reporting.

Founded in 1988 to perform drug testing for the Victorian Racing Industry (VRI), Racing Analytical Services Limited  has been one of Australia’s leading drug testing laboratories for more than 30 years.

As part of the quality drug testing services offered by RASL, our experienced staff can provide expert advice to clients on all aspects of drug analysis and reporting.

In the early 20th century, racing authorities in Europe and North America raised concerns in the misuse of drugs in animal sports. Chemists then participated in the development of drug testing for animal athletes and had successfully brought down the incidents of positive findings. The Association of Official Racing Chemists (AORC) was later officially established in 1947 in Chicago. AORC currently has over 100 members from 26 countries worldwide. The objectives of the AORC are to encourage the advancement of those branches of science applicable to the detection of drugs in biological materials; the promotion of research in those fields; the improvement in the qualifications and usefulness of racing through high standards of technical training, ethics, and performance, through exchange of information among members; and furthering of public education and welfare by cooperation of the members with each other and official agencies.

The International Group of Specialist Racing Veterinarians (IGSRV) is an association that unites regulatory racing veterinarians, advises authorities in the regulation of drugs and prohibited substances, and encourages research on drugs, health and welfare of the horse. IGSRV has approximately 86 members representing 32 racing nations. The aims of the IGSRV are to act as an official association of veterinarians with similar interests; to advise authorities controlling horse racing/equine sports on veterinary matters relating to regulation/control of drugs/prohibited substances, health and welfare of horses, and the control of disease; to act in collaboration with the AORC to achieve effective regulation and control of drugs/prohibited substances in horses; to organise meetings of the International Conference of Racing Analysts and Veterinarians (ICRAV); to promote veterinary science regarding the rules of various controlling authorities; to promote research/knowledge on health, welfare, diseases, pharmacology and drug metabolism; and to promote international goodwill.
